Belarus and the Belarusian people will disappear if things continue as they are — Portnikov

"The process of liquidation of Belarusian statehood that we are observing now is not an instantaneous process. The Belarusian state will cease to exist, and the Belarusian people, excuse me, will disappear if everything continues the same way," said Ukrainian political commentator Vitaly Portnikov.

He noted that formally Belarus still exists, but its active Russification and Sovietization are underway.

"It may continue to exist, but it is no longer a state. It is simply a region of Russia, less sovereign than the Chechen Republic. Kadyrov has more opportunities than Lukashenko," Portnikov emphasized.

"By the way, in Kadyrov's country, 90% of the population speaks Chechen. And in Lukashenko's country, what language do 99% of the population speak? Russian. That's all you need to know about Chechnya and Belarus," he added.
